Local Communities Victoria (LCV) is dedicated to empowering Victorian councillors, councils, and community organisations with the resources, advocacy, and professional development they need to serve residents effectively. Our membership and training offerings provide exclusive access to targeted support, networking, and skills-building opportunities focused on grassroots local government challenges.

Membership Options

Join LCV to gain a stronger voice in advocating for fair funding, reduced cost-shifting, levy reform, and liveable communities. Membership fees support our independent advocacy work.

  • Councillor Class Members. Benefits include:

    • Full access to LCV advocacy resources and policy updates

    • 1 free training credit per year (redeemable for any LCV training session)

    • Priority invitations to member events and webinars

    • Exclusive networking with like-minded councillors across Victoria

  • Council Class Members. This provides organisation-wide benefits, including:

    • Representation and lobbying support for your council

    • Access for multiple staff/councillors to resources and events

    • Customised policy briefings on key issues like cost-shifting and planning reforms

    • 1 training credit per councillor

  • Other Organisations Community groups, ratepayer associations, or aligned organisations can join, gaining similar advocacy and resource access tailored to their role in supporting local communities.

  • General Associate Members Residents, ratepayers, or supporters can join for to stay informed, receive updates, and contribute to campaigns without full voting rights.

Professional Training for Councillors

LCV's Social Fundamentals is a practical half-day or online workshop designed specifically for Victorian councillors. It covers the core skills needed to use social media confidently, professionally, and compliantly.

What you'll learn:

  • Professional Setup Platform overview (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube), Business Manager setup, and profile optimisation.

  • Strategic Content Tone of voice, content best practices, and building a simple content calendar.

  • Policy Compliance Navigating platform political rules and Victorian local government obligations (including the Model Councillor Code of Conduct and typical council social media policies).

  • Community Engagement Responding to comments & messages, handling trolls/misinformation, fostering positive interaction, and engaging in local Facebook Groups.

  • All members gain free access to the training program

  • Group Programs are available by special arrangement.
