Our Mission
To provide a powerful, unified voice for Victoria's local communities and councils, ensuring they are fairly represented and resourced to deliver core services without undue burdens from higher levels of government. Unlike existing bodies such as the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA), we focus sharply on grassroots concerns, prioritising financial fairness, local autonomy, and liveable communities.

Why We Are Needed
Victorian councils and residents deserve better representation. Current peak bodies have not adequately addressed key challenges facing local government, including unfair financial pressures and overreach in planning. Local Communities Victoria steps in to champion practical, community-focused solutions that put residents first.
Victorian councils face unprecedented challenges: rate caps that don't keep pace with costs, cost-shifting from the state, rising levies like the new Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund, and planning reforms that threaten suburban liveability. Local Communities Victoria fills the gap by offering sharp, targeted advocacy on these frontline issues.
